Alternative Programming

St. Mary's School offers customizable academic programs for students with diverse learning needs that are not easily addressed by partaking in a traditional school day. Programs vary for each student but can range from fully online programs, hybrid programs (in-person and online), and other outreach offerings depending on student needs.

What does a typical day look like for students in Alternative Programming?

Alternative programs are tailored to the needs of each individual student and are designed in consultation with the student, parents, administrators, teachers, and counseling staff. Programs can be in-person, online, or hybrid, can be self-directed and/or teacher-led, and can include any number of course offerings.

How do I register for Alternative Programming?

Complete a registration form and indicate your interest in Alternative Programming by contacting the school. Registrations are accepted on a case-by-case basis after meeting with the Alternative Programming staff and school administration. School administration will make the final decision on programming.

Who are the Alternative Programming staff?

All courses are taught by a certified teacher. All other St. Mary’s staff (administrators, librarian, counselors, etc.) are available to students with an Alternative Program.

I was an online learner last year. Can I continue online this year?

Yes. The online learning program will continue to be offered by a qualified teacher.

What does online learning look like?

Your teacher will use a combination of Google Classroom and Google Meets to deliver your courses. When asked, your teacher will require you to attend classes on Google Meets and attendance will be taken. Synchronous online classes include engaging with the teacher in activities and discussions and may include group work. Other times your teacher may ask you to find assignments on Google Classroom and complete them on an asynchronous basis.

What does in-person learning look like if I am registered in an Alternative Program?

You and your teacher will work in a classroom at St. Mary’s School.
