Move for Mental Health Run/Walk

Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Important information:

When/Where: Sunday, May 4th 2025 at the Medicine Hat Public Library

What time: 12:30-12:45 pm until 4pm(the official event begins at 1pm, so students are asked to arrive a little earlier to get organized)

What to bring or do? If a costumed character- costumes will be provided to take home the week before the walk. Please take care of these costumes as they are property of the drama department. Costumes should be returned to the school on May 5th. Students that are acting as costumed characters will be expected to stay in character and interact with guests at the walk. If participating in registration or another table - materials will be provided and further instruction upon arrival at the event.

A note about parking: If adults are planning to stay onsite at the event, the library has said we can drop off at the main doors but they'd prefer their parking lot be used specifically for their patrons. There will be some spots available across the road at River Dental or any of the street parking spaces (please keep in mind parking may be tight as there is also a dance competition at the Esplanade).

This event is not a St. Mary’s event, but rather the event of one of our schools supports: CCT. The note is purely informational and there is no cost associated. Students will have to arrange transportation to and from the library.

I will be present at the start of the event to act as the teacher liaison and support students in their voluntary role. As well, the individuals responsible for the event, (our school CCT instructor Jordynn Tetrault  and the CCT coordinator Patti Wagman) will be present for the entirety of the event to further support students.

I am so proud to have a community of students so willing to offer their time for this walk. It is going to be a great event!

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at kayla.lukacs@mhcbe.ab.ca or Patti patti.wagman@mhcbe.ab.ca.

Red Dress Day

Time: All Day

May 5 is Red Dress Day, also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (observed annually on May 5).

Red Dress Day honours the memories of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls across Canada. Métis artist Jaime Black helped inspire the red dress movement, where red dresses are hung from windows and trees to represent the pain and loss felt by loved ones and survivors.

Lord, as a Catholic school community we pray for the safety and protection of Indigenous women and girls, that they may be free from harm and violence. Let us pray:

Red Dress Day Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We come before you today with heavy hearts as we remember and honor the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in our communities.

We lift up to you the families and loved ones who continue to grieve the loss of their sisters, daughters, mothers, and grandmothers.

We also pray for the safety and protection of all Indigenous women and girls, that they may be free from harm and violence. We ask that you guide us as a society to recognize and address the systemic issues that have contributed to this crisis, and that we may work together to create a world where all women are valued and protected.

We offer this prayer through the intercession of Our Lady, and in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Amen

Grade 9 Band Concert with Monsignor McCoy High School

Time: 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Location: Medicine Hat College Theatre

I am excited to announce that we are going to be doing a Band concert with Monsignor McCoy High School on May 15, 2025.

The concert will take place at the Medicine Hat College Theatre on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 6:30PM. Students will be performing songs on their own and a few songs with McCoy. This opportunity is important for all band students and is part of their grade. Please let me know if your child cannot attend and why. Seeing other bands perform is a great way for students to assess their own skills in comparison to students who have been playing longer. This is also a great opportunity to see the band they can join next year.

Students need to be at the Medicine Hat College Theatre at 6:00pm. Once they get there, there will be signs for where they can go to store their instruments cases. Students will be responsible for getting to and from the College Theatre and bringing their instruments to and from the performance. I will be transporting the required percussion instruments to the performance that day.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,
Braydon Gordon.

Photo ID: A group of 14 people, some standing, some seated in wheelchairs. All are wearing red t-shirts and clothing and smiling.

Red Shirt Day® (of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion) is a day when people across Canada come together and wear red to create a visible display of solidarity: to show their support for disabled people and their families, celebrate the achievements of disabled Canadians, and to pledge their commitment to help create a fully accessible and inclusive society.

Red Shirt Day is an Easter Seals initiative and was first celebrated in 2019. It takes place on the Wednesday of National AccessAbility Week each year.

Anyone can take part in Red Shirt Day. Put on your favourite red shirt, take some photos and make a pledge to help improve accessibility and inclusion in your community. Then post your photos and your pledge on social media with the hashtags. #RedShirtDay #RedForAccessAbility

Grade 9 Farewell - Lunch and Activities

Time: 12:00 pm - 3:15 pm

Re: Grade 9 Farewell – Important Details & Volunteer Opportunities

As we prepare for the Grade 9 Farewell, we’re asking students to submit a toddler photo of themselves through the Google Form in their Google Classroom. These photos are a fun way for students to see how much they’ve grown over the years! Please ensure your child submits their photo by May 1st so we have enough time to create the slideshow.

Farewell Event Details
Date: Thursday, June 12th
Activities: A casual, fun-filled day with lunch provided, a scavenger hunt, a slideshow, and various photo booth backdrops. Students will have time to take photos with their friends.
Family Participation: Families are welcome to join at 3:00 PM to take photos with their graduate.

How You Can Help

We’re looking for volunteers to assist with:
• Creating the slideshow
• Decorating for the event
• Helping with the scavenger hunt

If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Miss Stroh at kyla.stroh@mhcbe.ab.ca. Your help is greatly appreciated in making this a special day for our Grade 9 students!
