Gr 7 Fine Arts Class at the Medalta Centre - CANCELLED

Time: All Day
Location: Medalta Centre

This year the grade 7FA field trip is scheduled to take place on April 24th 2020, this will allow
students the opportunity to further embrace the arts with a day of sculpture and drawing in a wonderful historical setting. This is to ensure that your child is immersed in the history and culture of our city as well as understanding the unique opportunities that visual arts have held in the past and in the future.

We will arrive at Medalta Pottery after a short bus ride at 9:15 am, from there we will enjoy a tour of the premises and discuss a little of the history surrounding the building and its role within society. From 10:30 am to 12:30 pm we will split the group up into two parts with the first group experimenting with clay pottery under the tutelage of a local ceramic artist while the other half of the group partakes in a steam punk themed art exercise using old gears and machinery found within the confines of the old factory. From 12:30 – 1:00 the group will break for lunch, I ask that students pack their own lunches for this trip as there will be no food available on the premises, nor microwaves (please have them bring sufficient beverages as well). After lunch the groups switch art projects in order to experience both tutorials, and then at 2:30 pm we board the bus and head back to school for the end of the day.

As with all field trips, there is an air of caution and safety, the building is old and there is possibility of
tripping, falling, dust inhalation and scraped knees if not careful and (hopefully not) a bus accident on
the way to and from Medalta; also as with working with any clay like materials, hands may dry out and dust might be inhaled causing irritation and/or increased coughing, asthma or sneezing. The danger is minimal but one should be aware of what might occur in the worst case scenario.
Students must be at school for attendance at the beginning and at the end of the day as it is school
policy. As such, we ask that parents refrain from dropping their child off at Medalta beforehand, or
picking them up from Medalta at the end of the day. We need you to come to school, follow due
process and sign your child out if you feel the need to remove them from our care. If you have any
questions or concerns, feel free to call or email me at Christina.remeikis@mhcbe.ab.ca, 403-527-7616
(during school hours please).

Natural relationships can be extremely beneficial. In nature, some animals can be called a ‘Keystone Species’, defined by their important position in the ecosystem. Without them, many species would imply vanish. It’s all about mutually beneficial relationship building. Brian Keating has spent a lifetime observing our wild counterparts. He has come to the conclusion that we humans are very much like any of the wild creatures we share the planet with. We just dress fancy and have smart phones.

Bullying Awareness Week

Time: All Day

Overview

Bullying Awareness Week (November 16-20, 2020) is the third week in November.

It is a time to promote awareness and understanding of bullying and its impacts.

Get involved

Bullying is a relationship problem that involves a power imbalance, which is why it can be so challenging to overcome it by ourselves. Regardless of where bullying happens – in school, the office, at home or in the community – there are people and resources that can help. This year’s theme, #WhereToTurn, encourages everyone to learn where to turn when dealing with bullying.

Here are a few ways you can take part in Bullying Awareness Week:

  • share bullying prevention resources on social media
    • the Bullying Helpline (1-888-456-2323) is available 24/7 in over 170 languages
  • start a discussion with your friends, family or coworkers about how to intervene
  • write a letter or email to the editor of your local newspaper or radio station about the importance of promoting healthy relationships
