Grade 6 Information

January 22, 2025
Dear Grade 5 & 6 French Immersion Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that Monsieur Patrick Pagé has been successfully selected to transfer to St. Mary’s School at the start of the 2025-2026 school year.
As you are already aware, the Grade 6 students in both the French Immersion and English programs will be transitioning to St. Mary’s School next year. In light of this, Deputy Superintendent Mr. Nick Gale initiated a process prior to the Christmas break to identify suitable candidates for this transition. After careful consideration, Monsieur Pagé was selected, and we are pleased to share this update with you.
We understand that the announcement of the programming changes may have caused some uncertainty or concern within the French Immersion community. In an effort to ease any trepidation, we felt it important to share this news now, ensuring that both students and parents have clarity moving forward. Monsieur Pagé’s transition to St. Mary’s School will undoubtedly play a key role in facilitating a smooth and seamless experience for our students as they continue their education.
While we will certainly miss Monsieur Pagé’s dedication and contributions to our school community, we fully support his interest and enthusiasm, and are confident that he will make a positive impact at St. Mary’s School. We wish him all the best in his new assignment.
As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at your convenience.
Best regards,
Mr. R. Dumanowski
Information on Grade 6 Programming
December 12, 2024
Dear MHCBE Families,
I would like to share a few division updates with you all, as these changes may affect your families in the future.
At the Public Board Meeting on December 10, 2024 (agenda | livestream), the Board of Trustees approved two motions directly affecting St. Mary’s School and École John Paul II School:
- Grade 6 Program at St. Mary’s School: Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, St. Mary’s School will introduce a Grade 6 program for both English and French Immersion students.
- École John Paul II School transition to K-5: École John Paul II School will transition from a K-6 to a K-5 school, effective in the 2025-2026 school year.
These decisions reflect the Board’s commitment to the overall best interests of the school division while addressing the growth and utilization of ÉSJPII’s facilities.
In addition to the motions listed above, the division plans to transition the elementary French Immersion program to the St. Mary's School building in the fall of 2027, following the opening of our new K-9 Catholic school, Holy Trinity Academy.
The division’s commitment to supporting our growing K-12 French Immersion program begins with giving the program the proper space to grow.
In the fall of 2027, the locations of the Medicine Hat Catholic French Immersion program will be as follows:
- Grades K-6 French Immersion: St. Mary’s School
- Grades 7-9 French Immersion: Holy Trinity Academy
- Grades 10-12 French Immersion: Monsignor McCoy High School
We appreciate your support and partnership as we work to provide the best possible learning opportunities for our students. If you have any questions about these changes, please do not hesitate to contact the Catholic School Board Office at 403-527-2292 or via email at info@mhcbe.ab.ca.
Thank you for your continued trust in Medicine Hat Catholic schools.
God bless,
Dr. Dwayne Zarichny
Superintendent of Schools
Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education
